*This past week, something very interesting happened to president Bush. While giving a speech in Iraq, one of the audience members threw a pair of shoes at him. In Iraqi culture, showing the bottom of your shoes to a person is a sign of disrespect and deep hatred. Read the article below and then look at the cartoon. then write the two paragraphs*

Shoes thrown at Bush on Iraq trip

A surprise visit by US President George Bush to Iraq has been overshadowed by an incident in which two shoes were thrown at him during a news conference.

An Iraqi journalist was wrestled to the floor by security guards after he called Mr Bush "a dog" and threw his footwear, just missing the president.

The US president has now continued to Afghanistan to inspect troops there. He arrived before dawn at Bagram air force base, and is due to hold talks with President Hamid Karzai

In the middle of the news conference with Mr Maliki, Iraqi television journalist Muntadar al-Zaidi stood up and shouted "this is a goodbye kiss from the Iraqi people, dog," before hurling a shoe at Mr Bush which narrowly missed him.Showing the soles of shoes to someone is a sign of contempt in Arab culture. With his second shoe, which the president also managed to dodge, Mr Zaidi said: "This is for the widows and orphans and all those killed in Iraq."Mr Zaidi, a correspondent for Cairo-based al-Baghdadiya TV, was then wrestled to the ground by security personnel and hauled away."If you want the facts, it's a size 10 shoe that he threw," Mr Bush joked afterwards.Al-Baghdadiya's bureau chief told the Associated Press that he had no idea what prompted Mr Zaidi to attack President Bush, although reports say he was once kidnapped by a militia and beaten up.Correspondents said the attack was symbolic. Iraqis threw shoes and used them to beat Saddam Hussein's statue after his overthrow.

  1. The message this cartoon is trying to convey is that Americans are unhappy with president bush. Although, this isn't news to anyone; bush does have one of the lowest approval ratings a president has ever had. I can tell that this is the underlying message because the man sitting in the chair is not wearing shoes. Not only that but his television has been destroyed by throwing shoes at it. He is saying that he can relate to the man who threw shoes at bush. Since he too is so unhappy with him. So unhappy that he throws shoes at the television, when bush makes speeches. I for one couldn't be happier that bushs time in office is running out, he has done enough damage. I hope that with Obama we can get some real change around here.

  2. The cartoon states that now with Bush finally being out of office is when the people express how they feel about our "leader". The man has bombarded his television with not only the shoes he was already wearing, but with more pairs. I've wanted to throw more than just a pair of shoes to bush, but in Iraq that symbolizes great disrespect. I wonder what is is the equivalent to shoe throwing in the U.S. I wonder though what will become of bush when he becomes a ghost of the white house once our new president becomes in charge.

  3. The message that the cartoon holds is that Bush is probably one of the most infamous presidents and not many people are content with him as president are glad that his term is at an end. The cartoon shows a man reading a newspaper with the headline "SHOES THROWN AT BUSH IN ANGER." In the background his TV is broken because many shoes have been thrown at the TV. This shows that it is not only the people of Iraq who are intensely aggravated with Bush but so is the USA. The thought bubble proves that USA is also furious with Bush and his actions.

  4. In the cartoon, there's a guy sitting in the chair reading an article about an Iraqi saying "good bye" to the president. Also after he says all those things to him he trows both of his shoes at him. "Showing the bottom of the person shoes to another person is a sign of disrespect". The guy in the cartoon agrees with the article maybe because he is disapointed in what Gorge Bush has done so far in office for 8 years. Finally the Bush era is over and with Barak Obama hopefully there will be change for the better for all races.

  6. The cartoonist is trying to say that people in America also hate Bush as much as the Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at him. The man in the cartoon isn't wearing any shoes, but on the contrary, the television screen has been thoroughly damaged by many pairs of shoes. In Iraq, throwing shoes at someone is the ultimate symbol of disrespect and hatred. Since the newspaper headline says "Shoes Thrown At Bush In Anger" and the man is thinking "I can relate" it's clear that the man also feels a deep repugnance towards Bush.

  7. well i dont think anyone is truly satisfied for the disturbing work Bush did and destroyed many things even people. People are not only concerned but angry for the way he as a president decided to take action. As a sign to disrespect people can never hurt or make him feel what he made others go through so the least thing to do is throw a shoe for disrespect. Even the man reading the newspaper reads the title of people throwing shoes at the president and ofcourse he relates since he isn't wearing no shoes either cus he jus thrown them at the Tv probably after seeing Bush. This shows how no one really seems to agree with his decisions and just hope that one day he regrets what he started.
